EU countries to reduce wine consumption and exports in 2020
Wine consumption in the European Union (EU) countries will decrease in 2020 due to the decision to close bars and restaurants during the COVID-19 epidemic, Le Figaro reports. The European Commission predicts that wine consumption in 27 member states of the European Union will decrease to 108 million hectolitres, or 24 litres per capita, in the 2019/20 season (August to July). Wine exports are expected to decline 14% from 2019 year due to lower demand in major markets such as China and additional tariffs in the US. According to the news agency, according to estimates of the scientific institute in Paris L Institut Pasteur, by May 11, 2020 coronavirus will infect less than 6% of the inhabitants of France, which is not enough to avoid the second wave of epidemic.
