Court in Georgia left political prisoner Rurua under arrest
On June 29, the Tbilisi city court upheld the measure of restraint to the arrested co-owner of the opposition television channel Mtavari Archi Georgy Rurua, who is accused of illegally carrying weapons. This was reported by Georgian Public Television. According to journalists, at the trial, the defense of the accused filed a petition for the release of his client on bail. The prosecutor's office insisted that the preventive measure for the duration of the investigation be left unchanged. The court upheld the prosecution. Recall that Rurua was detained in November 2019. Opposition representatives call him a political prisoner. The parliamentary parties United National Movement and European Georgia refused to vote for the bill on electoral reform until Rurua was released.
