A National Human Rights Coordination Mechanism had been established in Western Sahara. This was announced at the constituent assembly held on August 24 under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Bushrai Hamudi Beyun, reports Sahara Press Service. In his speech, the Prime Minister noted that the purpose of the mechanism established by decree of SADR President Brahim Gali is to coordinate internal and external efforts to counter violations of the rights of the Sahrawi people, as well as to develop a general concept for the protection of these rights at the national, regional and international levels in accordance with humanitarian law and resolutions of international organizations. In a statement to the media, Abdesalam Omar, chairman of the Association of Families of Saharan Prisoners and Missing Persons (AFPRADESA), called the creation of the mechanism an important step to further coordinate and counter violations of the rights of residents of Western Sahara by the Kingdom of Morocco and all violations of international humanitarian law.
